1. Believe the website idea is just as feasible as it was when I developed it. I just have to ensure that as I continue to interview customers I have to ensure that I am interviewing people from very diverse backgrounds.
2. I had to be sure that I didn't just moderate good questions but received good answers, which is also contingent on the people that I chose to interview. From the first set of interviews, I made sure that I interviewed diverse people. During my first set of interviews I interviewed people who were born and raised in the United States. With this set, I respected the diversity of the interviewees and how their culture may affect how they participate in service and social consciousness.
3. I believe that the opportunity with this website and the potential it has is immense. I think its success will be dependent on the people I can collaborate with, which is why I interviewed people who are native born American citizens and immigrants, Greeks who stress community services and non-Greeks.
4. Three tips I would offer to future students of this classes
a.) Just be yourself. It shows in both your questions and their answers if you're trying to be something you're not.
b.) Be passionate. With me, I think that asking questions about civic engagement helped propel the conversation from just question/answer to discussion/
c.) Ask questions that force interviewees to think. when you ask questions that require deep thought you get more comprehensive answers.

Way to go, Oliver!! I thought that your questions were really intricate. If you were to ask me those questions, I'd really have to brainstorm for awhile before coming up with an answer. Most people said that we'd have to be more conscious of our surroundings. We really have to throw our voices out there to be socially aware/ make a change and I believe that you are taking that first step already by asking people these questions. Awesome job!! Here's mine! http://cindyblogs4u.blogspot.com/2016/02/interviewing-customers-no-2.html
ReplyDeleteHey Oliver, I really enjoyed your videos and your idea is really interesting as well. However, it would very helpful if you mention what your opportunity (website idea) is so people won’t have to go into your other post to find out. Besides that, this is a great post. Your tips are great as well. I’ll actually try your last tip about asking questions that make interviewees think and give more comprehensive answers. Take a look at my post whenever you get the chance:

I think this is a great idea, Oliver, and I am always trying to become more socially aware and take action. I find that the biggest problem is time since I am pretty busy almost all year. I think that another major difficulty is that social media and, of course, everything simply strip the attention away from civic engagement and reduce the amount of social consciousness simply because of the way they are used. So, you attempting to increase the awareness of current events and get people to be more engaged in their communities via social media and the internet is a really good idea. On top of that, I thought you posed (and I mean this) really good questions that not only brought the issue to light and gives a very nice solution that is not too complex yet solves the problem to some degree. The level of implementation would obviously produce varying results, but given a good website and/or advertising, this could be actually a very good platform to get people more aware of and get them more in their communities. Fantastic job.
ReplyDeleteHey Oliver, it's Brad. Hope you've been well.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you chose this topic; civic engagement is perhaps one of the most important things anyone could do with their time. There is no better way to contribute to the creation and maintenance of culture, the quality of your community in all regards (social, safety, environmental, economic), and a sense of comradery that transcends racial boundaries, and instead replaces it with the pride of building a new community together, in the most modern, current time in humanity's history.
I also noticed how you improved the ordering of your questions and the flow of your interview as you got more of them under your belt. Nice work.
